Clock is a character from the online web series Battle for Dream Island. Underrated at best and hated at worst, Clock has become something of a widely-disliked character over the years he's been on the show. But why? What has this cute little clock done to garner such negative attention, and why do I like him?
I'll admit: I used to hate Clock. 6 or so years ago, I forgot he was even in BFB, and my opinion of him didn't get better when I started watching TPOT. After watching The Seven Wonders of Goiky, though, my entire perception of him changed. It was a massive eye-opener for me, and a single scene made him go from my least favorite character in the season, to one of my favorite characters in the entire series.

Clock's first season as a contestant, though there isn't much to say.
In a trend that will continue into the next season, Clock is on , a team bound together by their shared adoration for their fellow contestant and known celebrity, Loser. Clock idolizes Loser, unable to believe that one of his teammates, Pin, was being ignorant about Loser's fame.
Even though The Losers! relied on Loser as their "team leader", Clock proved himself to be useful on several occasions, winning two challenges for his team. His efforts went unnoticed, however, and he is killed by Four off-screen after Get to the top in 500 Steps.
Clock spends several episodes dead, and while Eggy tries to recover him, she fails after not even remembering what his name is. When he is finally recovered in The Four is Lava, his teammates suddenly remember who he is. They pretend to have missed him, and when Leafy reveals he's been dead for four episodes (an entire year in show-time), Clock leaves, knowing that his team never truly cared about him.
In The Escape from Four, Clock initially wanted to stay on BFB, but quit the show after Four changed the prize, leaving to compete on TPOT.
In BFB, Clock is not only forgotten by his teammates, but the fanbase as well. There was barely anyone that cared about him (if at all), though his time on BFB goes on to shape his character in
Clock's second (and most controversial) contestant appreance to date.
Starting anew on TPOT, Clock finds Winner, Loser's forgotten partner. When he learns that Cake and Eggy don't recognize them, he goes on a short ramble about Loser and Winner's past before deciding to leave Cake and Eggy behind in search of new teammates. When the team is fully formed, he suggests that they should be called in Winner's honor, though Winner themself isn't comfortable with the team name, forming .
For the next few episodes, Clock is very pushy towards Winner, unintentionally love bombing them. This all comes to a head in Getting Puffball To Think About Rollercoasters, where he ruined his team's plan of Yellow Face preforming on stage last-second and replacing him with Winner, much to the confusion of the rest of the team. Winner gets upset with Clock for pushing them to do something they weren't ready for, to which Clock replies with "I wasn't trying to force you, I was just..", showcasing that he wasn't thinking about Winner's feelings and prioritzed what he wanted over Winner's comfort.
In the following episodes, Clock is noticeably less pushy towards Winner, being polite instead of forcing them to do anything. He goes back to being 'team leader', helping come up with strategies to win challenges (resulting in one win and one loss).
In The Seven Wonders of Goiky, The S! is up for elimination after failing the previous challenge. Clock finds himself in the bottom two (along with Bottle), though Clock ends up getting eliminated with 2,152 votes to save. Clock is distraught by this, pinning their loss on Rocky for ruining their cereal. He begs to stay, not wanting to end things with Winner on such bad terms. While Clock is officially eliminated, his appeal does work, and Two lets him stay in the hotel with Four and X until his relationship with Winner is properly mended. During the episode's stinger, he tries to interact with them, though they don't give the interaction the time of day, leaving him dejected and upset.
In a scene without Clock in Balancing P.A.C.T, Two tries to talk to Winner about how Clock wants to make amends with them, but Winner shuts them down immediately in this interaction:
Oh! Winner! Gotta talk to you. So in the kitchen, Clock-
You didn't ask me.
Wh- oh. What?
I don't want to have to deal with him anymore. He treated me differently just because I used to be famous, and so are you, by the way. No one else has gotten special treatment from you. I just wanna be treated like everyone else!
Winner openly says how they don't like interacting with Clock and how it makes them uncomfortable. Two's misunderstanding of Winner's feelings towards Clock puts them in a sour mood, and it's clear that they, at the very least, dislike him.
Clock appears in Outbreak at Stake in one joke scene with Four and X.
Clock returns as a major character in Oneirophobe's Nightmare, where the challenge is to escape a team member's nightmare. The S! enters Winner's nightmare, which, strangely, is full of Loser memorabilia. Ice Cube mentions how "Clock would've loved this!" and Four overhears, telling Clock that he's needed elsewhere before transporting him into Winner's nightmare. His teammates hadn't even known that he wasn't completely eliminated, but they don't seem to mind. Clock doesn't understand how this could be a nightmare for Winner, considering that he idolizes Loser, and knows that Loser and Winner were close. He assumes that Winner just became jealous of Loser's fame.
The team sees Winner entering the "Loser Museum", and when asked if he's coming along, Clock says that he'll join them, but hang far back as to not upset Winner with his presence. While in the museum, Winner explains their backstory, which prompts Clock to ask "Loser did that?!", his sudden exclamation shocking his former teammates, especially Winner.
Upon seeing Clock, Winner becomes distressed, though Clock tries to de-escalate the situation, repeatedly apologizing for misunderstanding everything about them. He explains that he latched on to them so tightly because he knows what it's like to be forgotten, and he doesn't want the same thing to happen to them. They come to an understanding about their situation, reconciling.
Clock? How? Why? What are you doing here?
Winner, I'm so, so sorry. I thought you wanted fame and I- I couldn't believe that Eggy and Cake didn't know who you were, and I didn't want you to be forgotten.
Why? Why is it SO important to you for me to be famous?
No! It's not that! Winner, I was forgotten about. I was dead, and no one bothered to recover me for a year! And they didn't even deliberately bring me back, either. No one cared, and I just didn't want the same thing to happen to you: to be forgotten about. I know how bad that feels.
Right. I know a bit about that myself. I mean, that's how I felt when Loser left. And then, when you were getting obsessive, it felt like you were treating me like I was a celebrity when that was just the last thing I wanted.
I'm so sorry, Winner. For pushing you, for making you uncomfortable- I misread what you were going through and-
Clock. I get it. I just wanted someone back who cared about me, and I do appreciate that you were trying to put that effort in for me. And you guys, too. Thank you for listening to me and trying to help.
After reaching an understanding with Clock, Winner laments that they can finally move on from their past, now at peace with themself after explaining their turmoil to their teammates. After finally making up with Winner, Clock is officially eliminated, placing 35th.
So, why is Clock hated by the BFDI fanbase? It's simple: he repeatedly crossed Winner's boundaries, put himself before them, and had a forgettable run in BFB. Despite his many flaws, I can't help but like him. He reminds me of myself in some ways, especially with the feeling of being forgotten and cast-away by others. The changes he went through throughout his time as a contestant captivate me, and I'm really interested in seeing how he evolves in future episodes (if he is in them, of course).
As I said at the end of Coverage, I see a bit of myself in him. I can relate to his athazagoraphobia because I've been there myself. Being forgotten is one of my worst fears, and my heart ached when I realized that I had forgotten about him just like everyone else.
I hated him for a while. His obsession with Winner changed my perception of his entire character, and watching any scene with The S! would just make me irritated because of how he acted. Getting Puffball To Think About Rollercoasters was the tipping point for me, watching the scene where he dragged Winner up on stage gave me second-hand embarrassment, which only made me hate him more. If it wasn't for that, The S! wouldn't've lost the challenge, and a character I like, Cloudy, wouldn't've been eliminated. Watching him interact with Winner, even during times when he was less pushy and less obsessive did nothing but make me angry on Winner's behalf.
I kept up my hatred until The Seven Wonders of Goiky. I was hoping that Rocky would get eliminated because he ruined the challenge for The S! in the previous episode. When he was deemed safe, I, of course, started rooting for Clock to be eliminated instead. My hopes came true, though watching the scene made me feel.. sad. It wasn't out of pity; I genuinely felt bad for him. His disbelief, his pleading to both Winner and Two to stay on the show, his frantic apologies to Winner, how he wanted to stay in to continue helping his teammates rather than staying in because Winner was there. It made me feel.. so much. So many parts of that episode stuck with me after finishing it, and this was one of those parts.
The episode's stinger only made me feel worse. Watching Clock try to fix things with Winner only to be shut down immediately really hit close to home. I can admit, I've been in both of their situations before. I empathized with Winner for being unable to forgive him, and I empathized with Clock for that familiar feeling of isolation when someone ignores you without saying a word.

The line "Give it a go on another day." stuck with me in particular. Despite hating Clock, I wanted to see him give it a go on another day. I wanted him to have a chance at redemption. I waited and I waited and I waited, and then TPOT9 came out. It wasn't really anything, but seeing him show up again made me hopeful. And then TPOT10 happened.
Before that, TPOT7 was my favorite episode. It started (or continued) the "three main arcs" (as I call them in my head), those three being with Death P.A.C.T again, Robot Flower and Basketball, and of course, Winner and Clock. While it didn't start their arc, it sure did push it further with Clock's "elimination".
TPOT10, really changed everything for me. I've always been a fan of Winner, and the epsiode only further solidified that. What really got me, though, was Clock's redemption. I didn't expect it to happen so soon, especially with the circumstances especially regarding Winner's reaction to seeing him again.

Call me cringe, call me emotional, but this reaction alone got a lot of emotion out of me. I was scared, scared for the scenario where Winner rejects Clock's attempt at reconcile and apology once again. I know what it's like to be treated like that,
